Souq Waqif

Souq Waqif

A vibrant traditional marketplace that has been a commercial hub for over a century, showcasing Qatari culture and heritage.

Souq Waqif is one of Doha's most iconic landmarks and a living representation of Qatar's trading heritage. The name "Souq Waqif" translates to "standing market," as Bedouins would come here to trade their goods while standing.

The souq dates back over 100 years and has been carefully restored to preserve its traditional Qatari architectural style, featuring mud-rendered shops, exposed timber beams, and distinctive wind towers. Today, it remains a bustling marketplace where visitors can experience authentic Arabian culture.

The souq is divided into several sections selling traditional garments, spices, handicrafts, perfumes, and antiques. The falcon souq is particularly notable, reflecting Qatar's deep-rooted falconry traditions. The area also features numerous traditional restaurants serving authentic Qatari and Middle Eastern cuisine.

Souq Waqif serves as a cultural bridge between Qatar's past and present, hosting cultural festivals, art exhibitions, and traditional performances throughout the year.
