Museum of Islamic Art
A world-class museum designed by I.M. Pei, housing one of the most comprehensive collections of Islamic art spanning 1,400 years.
The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) is one of the world’s most renowned museums dedicated to Islamic art and heritage. Designed by the legendary architect I. M. Pei and inaugurated in 2008, it stands majestically on Doha’s Corniche, offering panoramic views of the city’s waterfront.
The museum’s collection spans 1,400 years and features masterpieces from three continents, including manuscripts, metalwork, ceramics, jewellery, textiles, coins, woodwork, and glass. These works, drawn from royal treasuries and everyday homes alike, reflect the rich diversity and craftsmanship of Islamic civilizations from Spain to China.
Architecturally, the building is an icon of modern Islamic design, with its geometric forms, interplay of light and shadow, and a soaring central atrium inspired by traditional Islamic architecture. In 2022, MIA reopened after a major reimagination project that enhanced its galleries and visitor experience.
Beyond its role as a museum, MIA serves as a cultural and educational centre, hosting exhibitions, lectures, and community programmes that promote understanding of Islamic art and history. MIA Park, surrounding the museum, offers vibrant public spaces and spectacular views of Doha’s skyline.
MIA serves not only as a repository of art but also as an educational and cultural center, hosting exhibitions, lectures, and workshops that promote understanding of Islamic art and culture. The museum park offers stunning views of the Doha skyline and has become a popular gathering place.
